Where I tell you what I want what I really really want

Today marked my fifth week as a non smoker.  5 WEEKS!  Yay!
Lets just have a brief review shall we?

Day one - Am I doing this?  Oh crap I am actually doing this...
Day two -  If I leave the house I'll buy baccy.  If I'm going to do this I cant leave the house.  Ever.
Day three - I cant do this without killing someone.

Week 1 - OH MY GOD I've done a week.  I could actually do this.  I only want one after meals and every time I take a break from anything....  The nicotine pills are hurting my mouth.  The nicotine gum looks, tastes and feels like plastic.  Why is my wee shadow Els going utterly mental and shoving her face in my face all the time?  Do cats need N.R.T too?!

Week 2 - Why does everything taste so awful?  Why can I smell so much - most of it is bloody awful, you call this an advantage?!  Oh Ellicat you didn't, you had to go take a dump now?  Must go out.  How quickly can I get back in the house before I walk up to that rather attractive Fag smelly bloke over there and lick his face?

Week 3 - oh wow, I've done it!  Oooh, I've done it, does that mean I can just have one, just one, just to remind me how terrible it was?  Ohhh go on, you've proved you can do it, just one wont hurt at all.  For F-sake just one...  please.... I cant even drink a cup of tea anymore, everything tastes horrible...

Week 4 - my man returned and quit too...  A few little squabbles.... I want a fag.  Well so do I.  Yeah well its your fault I cant have one.  Well have one then.  No.  Well shut up.  You shut up. No you shut up.  Shuddup!!  etc etc.

Week 5 - My gums bleed overnight.  My mouth tastes vile.  I want chocolate.  Why am I crying?  I have absolutely no f'@*ing clue it just keeps happening!  Feed me...
BUT I DON'T WANT A CIGARETTE.  (much.)

Someone tell me things are only going to get better, please!

  1. Good for you! 5 weeks is wonderful. I am certain it will get better. My uncle quit smoking when I was a kid and I remember he couldn't figure out what to do with his hands. He started eating licorice like crazy just to keep his finers busy! He gained like 30 lbs but his hands were busy! :) Keep up the good work!

  2. That's fabulous! Well, maybe not the craziness and awful tastes, but so glad you have made it this far! From what I've heard you have probably made it through the worst of it, but I can't say for sure. But YAY, Sarah!! You are doing great! Just don't go lick some weird guys face. He might not like that. Or he might.

  3. I am so proud of you. Don't kill anyone, lick anyone, cussing might be ok...of course if you are directing it at a stranger they might not appreciate it but do you really care? LOL I sure hope it gets better!!!!

  4. Well done so far so good! I gave up 10 years ago. I nearly went crazy in the first couple of weeks. Managed to not lick anyone's face, but I'm sure I invaded people's personal space just to get a sniff of the cig. You are doing so well. It's so much more part of the culture in the UK, which makes it so much harder. I also recommend sweets. They made it a little easier for me!

  9. I stopped having sugar in my tea about 20 years ago and now sweet tea makes me vomit!

    Does that help?

  11. Congratulations Ms Ex-smoker! If you can do 5 weeks, you can do it permanently! Please though (from one ex-smoker to another!) DO NOT have Just One EVER!!!! One big row and one pack of cigs turned into another 7 years smoking!
I finally had the best reason to quit and I've not had one since before my little girl was born 4 years ago.
Are you putting away the cash you used to find for cigarettes so you can treat yourself to some nice fabric? :)

  12. Wow Sarah, it sure sounds horrific, but if it was easy then I guess no one would smoke anymore!?! Well done for getting this far, just stay strong, you can do it! I like WandaFish's comment about saving the money for a treat, could be a nice incentive!

  14. Congratulations! This is huge!

I know absolutely nothing about what you're going through, but I think you should take up a side career as a stand up comic. It will kill some of that extra time you have now that you're not standing outside smokin' :) You'll make a mint, my friend!

  15. It might have messed with your tast buds and your sense of smell - but quitting smoking did nothing to dull your sense of humour!! You are bloody hysterical even in your moments of crisis. You can do it and think how utterly pissed off at yourself you would be if you quit now. So eat chocolate and lick strange men's faces. That should keep you going.

  16. Congratulations and I agree with Susan about stopping smoking not messing with your sense of houmour...you make me laugh every time!! Keep going, it'll get easier...and just think of the money you'll be able to spend on fabric!

  20. Well done you. I quit 10 years ago or so and I'm afraid that taste in your mouth does take a while to go. But it is all worth it.
