Blood, snot and tears...

My week started last week with earache.  Then a sore throat, and a very sore face.  I got stuck into the hand quilting on my Brit Quilt Swap though.  Or at least I was getting stuck into it until I noticed this...

WTF?!  I've no idea how that happened.  Fortunately that is one patch that I do have a little bit more of, so I started doing this...

That's as far as I got I'm afraid.  Well...  I was a bit downhearted with it, and I was getting the worst cold I've had in years.  So, I took that photo and shut the door on the sewing cupboard.

I haven't been back in the sewing cupboard yet.  There are so many things on the go in there that are for other people that I thought it might not be appropriate to douse them in snot.

I could very easily sit here and bore you with a plethora of self pitying rambles, as I feel like crap, I look like crap, I sound like crap, the house is upside down cos there still isn't a working bathroom, having to be up at 7am every morning is killing me, my Narcolepsy is getting worse each day thanks to early starts and nights even worse than my usual crappy nights due to hacking cough and the river of snot that used to be my nose, and my man left yesterday to go back to work at sea for months, and I am on my own again.  However...  I wont.  Or at least that will do for now!  I have something to be happy about, and I'm not just referring to the fact that there was a Kylie concert on telly tonight (which was awesome).  I'm talking about this...

Yes, my single girl quilt.  It has been lurking down the side of the sofa for months, its been on holiday with me, its been in the garden, its basically been kicking about for donkeys so since it was always gonna have to be washed as soon as it was done I figured I might as well sit and work on it, deathly lurgy or not.

I cannot bear to even attempt to calculate how many long hours this sodding lovely quilt has had.  I no longer have any feeling in the tip of my index finger.  I have puncture marks all over my hands. Yes I was using a thimble.  My man did offer the use of his welding gloves...  My stitches are all too big, the space between the stitches too big, the quilting lines wonky, the back doesn't look entirely flat.

Suddenly none of that matters.  IT IS FINISHED!

WOOHOO!

(and these pics were taken outside at about 10.30pm!)

  1. Wonderful! I love it, it is so colourful and the quilting is great. I am hoping you forget all the grief it caused and enjoy snuggling under it, maybe that will help with the cold.

Sorry you are still feeling 'yuk' - I hate it when you can't even imagine feeling 'normal' again xxx

  8. Why not open the cupboard door and go back in. Just sit for a while, surrounded by fabric and things you love - it might make you feel a bit brighter. No need to do anything. Sometimes I just get my fabrics out and feel them (Yes, wierd, but not in a bad way!)
And hopefully you can't see the bathroom from there.

  9. Aw pet, so sorry you're miserable at the mo. It's distressing enough getting building work done, not to mention feeling like cr*p as well. If I was living near to you I'd be round in a flash with a hot toddy and a funny dvd to watch. Keep your chin up mate, and stay within your limits. Better days are coming. Fabulous quilt btw - love the hand quilting. Jxo

  10. I like Dianne's idea Sarah. Sometimes I get so attached to the outcome of a project that I forget to enjoy the process and the materials.
That quilt is aMAZing!! I adore the colour combo. I guarantee if you were looking at someone elses work, you would not be nearly so critical as you are on your own, and would be able to focus just on how beautiful it is.
BTW, my end of the deal? Done!! Ha ha!!! (Look out for a post soon) Better get your dressmaking hat on lady!(Just don't be getting any snot on it, ok?!)
    Feel better soon lovely ;)

  13. Aww poor you, I found a hole in a quilt once and it totally pee'd me off! You'll fix it though, and as for the single girl, it's scrummy, grey/ bright colours - one of my favourite combos..hope you're feeling well enough to get back into that cupboard shortly.. :) x

  14. Your quilt looks wonderful - and to quote the amazingly talented lady who taught the class on hand quilting that I attended - it isn't the individual stitches that count but the over all affect. And looking at your quilt it looks over all perfect.

Hope you are back to fighting fit soonest possible. Without the essential man to run your baths for you at the moment it makes it even less nice to be ill.

  15. C'mon, you've got something lovely to cosy under and there's a package in the post for you so you can't get too miserable as you won't enjoy it!

The quilt looks amazing, I'm really proud of the beautiful work you do. Take a break and don't worry about the cupboard. Sit in there if it makes you feel better but don't touch! hehe! ;)

  20. Thanks so much for visiting me! So pleased to see your comment that you're feeling a bit better. I love your single girl quilt - its one that I'd really like to have a go at one day - not sure I could cope with all that hand-quilting though - and I don't see all those problems you were pointing out, it really is lovely.
