the one that got away came to me

I received a lovely swap package this week, from Erin who blogs at Billy Button Design.

Erin made me a really gorgeous zippy pouch.  She's paid so much attention to things that I like, and she got it so right.  Solids.  Fab colours.  Linen.  Crazy improv piecing on one side.  And a really gorgeous mega pleated back.

Also included, a lovely Russian doll pincushion, and a scrap bundle.  No, an AMAZING scrap bundle.  Look at all these!!

So many gorgeous prints there, I was really delighted.  THANK YOU ERIN!

Now, I have to say, I feel pretty bad.  I remember seeing this pouch.  I remember liking this pouch.  I remember liking the fabric pics.  However, when I went back and looked, I was horrified to find I had only commented ONCE.  And reading it again, it didnt even sound all that good a comment either.  Poor Erin.  I know how it feels to be in a swap and not hear from your partner.  Or when you eventually do they dont sound so impressed.  I know how discouraging that feels.  So I feel even worse now knowing that I might have caused that for my partner.  Erin, I am so sorry.  I DO really like my zippy, its lovely, and so thoughtful.  (And wow those scraps are fantastic!).

I tried my best to keep up with commenting on all the photos submitted.  I really did.  One night in particular I was at it for 3 hours going through all the pictures and trying to comment on everything.  So I dont really know what to say.  Except sorry Erin, my pouch is lovely, thank you!

I'm still working on my For the Love of Solids main item, but I also played around for a while and did this as a possible panel for the "small item".

Its my attempt at rapid, not thinking just doing style piecing.  Tell me honestly....  Acceptable or just  a mess?!  I'm sure it wont surprise most of you to hear that I'm thinking "mess"...

I'll not be online for a few days, tis the mans birthday this week, and he's treating us to a few nights in a posh hotel somewhere....  My online bargain hunting skills were put to good use, fingers crossed we've got a cracker of a deal...  Teeeeny bit concerned that it's a bit TOO posh, as I have realised that aside from pyjamas the only thing that fits me right now is a particularly holey pair of denims.........that I spilled a whole glass of red wine on last night when I dozed off for 0.5 seconds with the glass in my hand.........  Oh dear...

  2. You got what you deserve, something wonderful! It is a fab pouch and just right for you. Well done to Eron and lucky you. And forget the mess thoughts for the solids swap. I personally think it is great. Now go have fun with the man. Don't do anything I wouldn't do - which leaves pretty well wide open.

  4. Lovely pouch - you can put stuff for your dirty weekend in it! Then use it to smuggle out the posh hotel toiletries, pens, stationery,etc...!
My eyes keep zoning in on that one part of the panel with no alternating grey. But I take it that was on purpose in a chaos theory focal point stylee...am just wittering now so will stop!

  8. Great pouch! It's funny when we receive in a swap then go back and realise we may have been less than enthusiastic. At least you commented! My partner for this swap has been AWOL the entire time! Not one comment!

  10. Lovely pouch. I did the same as you - one one comment made on my partners pouc. Thousands in all, but in our defence, there were so many. And I honestly think they were all lovely.
Have a nice few days away. Just don't slurp your soup!

  15. Love what you're doing with the solids panel. I think perhaps a solid frame/border round it (even a skinny) one would really set it off! Have a wonderful weekend being spoilt. Enjoy, dirty jeans an' all! Jxo

  16. Oooh, fab wee pouch! I wouldn't worry about the commenting, my FTLOS partner has been completely silent, so I'm just going with everyone else lol

As for the panel, it'll look great once you've set it in something else, border, pouch, whatever... :o)

  18. Do you also find on Flickr that when you comment a lot you forget to hit the 'post' button and just do enter instead and of course then your comment isn't posted? I'm sure I do this because sometimes I know I commented on something only to find I haven't? Great pouch and scraps from Erin anyway. Enjoy your mini break.

  19. Love the pouch and don`t worry about the comments thing - we`ve all been there and try to comment as much as possible. I love your panel - it`s gorgeous. Now go play in the posh hotel and enjoy it!

  20. Ooh, you did get a lovely pouch!! I love all those pleats on the one side-- very unique idea!! Enjoy your pouch and your scraps! I found it was very hard to keep up with all the commenting on the Mouthy Stitches also-- I did it in spurts when I was feeling up to it. I did the same thing as you-- I checked to see if I had managed to comment on my partners makes, and luckily I had! Have a wonderful getaway with your man!! I very much like your colorful wonky solids creation-- I think it will look great as a panel on a make-- stick with it!

  21. I think it is an acceptable mess! My tendency would be to organize all the little blocks to be in some sort of balanced array, but having said that, the unstructured array gives it a bit of an artsy feeling. And too, I always follow the rule: "It's my quilt (or project) and I can do it any way I please!"
Enjoy the posh trip! It sounds wonderful to me already. :)

  26. Hello lovely, hope you are enjoying your days away and that you found some "breeks" (is that what you called them?!) to take with you :) Lovely pouch from Erin and I think the scrappy trinaginals are cool too x

  27. Oh girl throw on a glittery top with those holey, stained jeans with some heals and everyone will think you were going for that look. These days anything goes. There are no limits as to what they will call "high fashion". I hope y'all have/had a grand time. You deserve it.

  28. Have a super few days off- You do not need to be posh, Just take your 'style' with you and anything will look great.

I know I found finding the time to comment difficult- and like you found I had made a luke-warm comment to ny partner, in all innocence, just because it was too good to be for me! Sour grapes this end I think, 'cos what was done was lovely. But were there not so many lovely things out there- that I would not have expected to like but they were lovely!

  33. What lovely goodies! My partner on the solids swap hasn't said a peep the whole time. It's so nerve wracking!

There are only 2 ways to deal with this clothing ordeal.

1 - Wear them with the stains, slice a few holes and act like a bad ass rock star.

2 - Take them along but realize you'll be wearing lovelies the size of those scraps Erin sent you ;)
