Rotten Mug Rug

Is it, well, a bit mental to laugh at your own jokes?   Cos this has been making me chuckle out loud all week now, and well, not many would argue with me when it comes to my being a bit, well, mental...

Mug Rug for Partner 1, Mug rug & goodie swap 2011
If anyone needs help getting the joke, looking here and here might maybe help.  Maybe.

So, that's one partners mug rug done.  Mug rug for partner two is done too, but I'm really not sure about it at all.

One side is my having fun with her colours, the other side is my first ever attempt at foundation piecing.  I'm not sure about either side!  Actually, thats not true.  I really like the solids side.  Its way more my thing. Not sure its my partners thing though.  And, well, when my man (yes, he's home!  yay!) saw both mug rugs, he looked at this one and said  "is this one for someone you dont like as much as the other one?"
Oh Crap.  Not the case at all!  Tell me honestly, is that what it looks like?!
I also got the "goodie" done for partner two.  Again, something that one minute I look at and think "awesome", the next minute I look at it and think "awful."  I'm a bit confused I think!

I'm fairly positive partner 2 likes that particular print.  And its a note / sketch pad carrier / roll / thingy.  I've tried really hard to think of something specific to her.  So, its either going to be a big hit or a complete dud!

Talking of big hits though...  Check out what I received in the "For the Love of Solids" swap, from Adventures in Fabric.

Isnt it fantastic?  Beautiful cushion, a lovely mug rug, and some lush fabric too!  I'm really delighted with it all, so a big thank you to Lori for being such a great swap partner.

I've still got a "goodie" to make for partner 1.  I'm getting too close to the deadline for comfort!  I'm really going to have to make an effort to restrain from joining swaps and Quilt-alongs and what not for a wee while, I've got so many sewing projects on the go at the moment I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.  Not in a bad way, just in a "why cant I stay awake more?" way!  Still, now that my man is home I don't need to worry about housework for the time being - and you can imagine how happy that makes me!  I just need to convince him that the hoover jumped and wasn't pushed...

I'm linking up with Sew Modern Monday again, remember to have a wee nosey there and check out the cool stuff others are doing - there's a feature on Jill from Made on Main Street, whom you may remember was my  For the Love of Solids swap partner.  Her work is pretty amazing!

  1. I love your work and I especially like the note/sketchpad, etc. thingy and that first mug rug! I am having trouble matching the lovely purple flowers to the skull print person, maybe I have mixed up the partners, or if not maybe that is the source of some of the angst?

  2. The cupcake with attitude is great, the purple is very pretty, but doesnt hit the spot in the same way for me, but i'm sure you did your homework, so she'll love it!

  4. You are so funny!
    Welcome home Mr Cupboard!

I think the second mug rug looks like it is for someone the complete opposite of your other partner! You've made a great job of it - I'm sure you aren't going to be way off the mark xxx

  5. Great idea to do a wee notepad roll thingy - I could do with one of those in my handbag (but maybe not in skulls!). Your purple MR is lovely, and I think you've really thought about the other person and their likes! I'm sure it will be a hit. So glad you've got your other half back for a wee while - we won't tell him about the hoover - promise! Jxo

  6. Isn't that cushion lovely?! Your mug rugs just look like you've got 2 very different partners and you've made to their tastes. I still have one goody to nail. I've found making for two partners in one swap trickier as I've procrastinated about the goodie element - after lots of faffing about the mug rugs themselves! Or maybe it's just in other swaps we've been told what to make it's just up to us the design? Fun though!

  7. Love your work but that skull notebook roll thingy is so cooool! I have procrastinated a lot but just hope my partners are a little happy.

LOVE the cushion you received...how amazing is that?

  8. See now, the mug rugs are both very different to reflect very different people, and therefor shouldn't be compared to each other, as long as their recipients love them :o) I do love the cupcake one though lol

  9. I'm reading In bed and laughing enough to wake the house. Stop worrying, wrap the mug rugs and post them. You obviously thought of each partner's preferences just like you were supposed to. That's all that was asked!

  10. Tell Mr. Handsome I said it is nice to "see" him again .... hehehe

I think MR2 is just fine, just different than MR1. Don't fret.

I too am pushing the deadline.

  11. Two very different mug rugs for two very different peeps no doubt - I'm sure you're Spot On sweetie :-)

  12. Hmmm.... bourbons, I haven't had those for ages. Must hunt out a packet. This is why I haven't joined a swap yet, I would be questioning myself for ages about whether it is good enough or suitable. Just go for it, especially if you have the colours your partner likes. After all it is surely supposed to be the thought that counts.

  15. You personally like one MR better than the other perhaps but each one reflects what your partners like and they are way different people! Me too -struggling with it but just got to accept it! However they are both beautifully created!

  16. Everything looks great - you have no need to worry. I did the same thing with partner twos goodie and made another one in different fabric and messed it up completley so decided it was a sign!
    Your chair looks very comfy!

  18. I was sure I'd left a comment, but it's not here - oh well.
I'm pretty sure they're not for me but the mug rug and the drawing roll are BRILLIANT. I wished I'd got a slightly warped mind like you - I'm just too "inside the box" for my own good.
    The cushion is fab too.

  20. It's so hard to make something for a partner that has such different taste to you but I'm sure she'll love it! The pen/note book roll is fabulous - both partners are going to be thrilled! I love your cushion, just the thing to snuggle up against on the settee!!

  22. All awesome. I like the lacy touch on the notebook case.

You are way too self critical missy as you are clearly talented at this quilting / patchwork malarkey!
