Post Christmas Sofa Excess...

Even Ellie Cat has had enough....

I realised yesterday when I woke from a doze that I didn't know what time it was.  As in, I really didn't know if it was afternoon or evening... And I couldn't think what day it was either...  And it was my fourth day on the sofa...
Of course I couldn't be arsed doing anything about that yesterday!  But I did today.  Got up early, spent the morning cleaning, went out for milk and went the long way to get a walk.  Its now 2pm and I'm knackered!  I've not been sleeping well for well over a week now, so my routine was bound to disappear, I'm not going to get annoyed with myself.  I will try and keep busy this afternoon though, see if I can stay awake for the rest of the day.  It was so great to get "Stained Pink" quilt finished I'll go and see if there's anything else I could finish this year too.

Meantime, this is one of the many, many combinations I spent the day messing about with yesterday - it was so much fun!

Fabrics are

What an absolutely genius idea after Christmas, to get us fabric addicts to spend hours on the Fat Quarter Shop...    If you're not familiar with Bloggers Choice, it really is as simple as it sounds - the Fat Quarter Shop picks a blogger and asks them to compile a fat quarter bundle, which will then be listed in the shop.  Now wouldn't we all like to pretend that blogger was us?  Laura, at Quokka Quilts, had the wonderful idea of making this a competition - not only do we get to sit for hours looking at fabric, it could also, for one lucky person, result in WINNING fabric!
Now, I found this so much fun that it was hard to pick one bundle... I was going to spend a few days on it (it runs til 15th January) but having seen the wonderful bundles that have been entered so far I thought I'd better get one in fast.  So, I'm linking this to Quokka Quilts, and if you haven't had a go yet yourself, try it!  (Just maybe make sure you have nothing else needing doing for a few hours...)

One other thing...  Would anyone like to make this quilt (more or less!) as a QAL with me, in February?  I cant promise it will be 100% identical as I am shockingly bad at doing the same thing twice, but the fabrics will be different for a start so it wouldn't look exactly the same anyway.  If I can get a few people agreeing to it, I'll post fabric requirements for a crib size the last week of January, and start a week later. (if not I'll just quietly pretend I never suggested it...)  It would of course be an awfully relaxed affair, nice and slow, and possibly with a wee prize for a completed one afterwards too.  Anyone game?

  1. I love the orange, grey and green. Great combo.

I don't know about the quiltalong, if my mojo comes back and I catch up on things (including the QAL I started last spring) I would as I loved the way your quilt turned out.

  2. Perfect timing for me as I promised myself I wouldn't start a new project until I finished one so that gives me plenty of time. I'm in.Love your bundle too.

  3. Oh green and grey, fab combo! I might be doing a kind of QAL of my own soon (eeek!) but I will consider doing yours too, cos I love the pattern and have a few special birthday quilts to make this year (hopefully the fabric will arrive in time!). Jxo

  4. Hehe I know what you mean about post-Christmas sofa-ness...my boyfriend and I have spent the last few days on the sofa eating christmas chocolates and other naughty goodies and catching up on many episodes of Mad Men (we are currently about halfway thru season 3!). I adore your pink quilt...I'm not sure I'd be up to actually taking part in a quilt-along, having never quilted anything in my life, however I would be really interested in following the progress, and maybe giving it a bit of a go either slowly or at a later date!

  5. I like the names of some of your fabric selection, especially the Paris Apartments and the Strawberry Tea Party! mmmm sounds like Spring! I didn't think I'd be able to enter that competition without being actually able to see the fabrics, but maybe I can make a selection based on descriptive names! :)

I can empathise with you sleeping confusion... I woke from a doze the other day and had no idea where I was. I'd dreamed I was in a store, so when I stumbled around and found the clothes hanging in the cupboard I deduced I was in the shop fitting room ... then I couldn't work out what I'd done with my white cane ... eventually I figured out I was in the bedroom and must have been asleep!! Too much mulled wine?? Maybe it wouldn't be so disturbing if it had been due to that!! hahaha!

  6. Love, love, love your bundle! More I see the more I hate mine! Hmmfff!!

More willing to consider your QAL now that you told me I didn't have to work hard or make a whacking great big quilt like you did for your auntie. I have been living a parallel life to yours, not sleeping well, living a lethargic life and then woke up today and did stuff - mostly laundry and cleaning - oh joy! I haven't shaken the lazy bit off yet though so couldn't convince myself I was going to actually accomplish a great big QAL. A crib size is right down my street! Wonder if that layer cake that arrived today would work for this?!

I am 'in' as long as I can stash-build it!

  9. Ohhhh, lovely quilt! I can't promise to join in the QAL but I'm going to go through my stash and see what I have that's suitable...and if I don't join in I'll be a cheerleader! Sorry you're having a rough time of it - I feel like I'm really out of the loop as I haven't been online in days...must confess that the break is quite nice, even if I do have 105 new blog posts to read! Hope things improve soon x

  10. Great fabric selection, lovely colours.
I'm not sure about the QAL, I'd like to but can't commit at this stage.
Must be something in the air, my sleep pattern is all over the place too.

  11. Ooh, another good bundle! I'm going to work on mine later. As for the QAL, as I came up with February, I'd better sign up ;o)

  12. Oh, I love your bundle. And as I was already telling Susan, it's a very dangerous competition - again I can see a few prints I didn't know before but I'm quite tempted to buy ;)
Your Stained Pink quilt is so great. I'm afraid with two or possibly three quilts with designs already decided on it would be a bit hard for me to join the QAL now, but it'd be great to follow the QAL posts. I'm sure there's going to be lots of fun involved.

  13. Hello honey, Am loving the greys and greens with a little flash of orange! It'd be dangerous for me to do that exercise...did you buy any?! I'm up for the quiltalong, I may not finish in time, but I'd love to start :) x

  14. I love your the colours you have chosen, I am afraid to make one of those collections I can't imagine I could resist ordering it too. I am in for the QAL for sure, I am going to have to figure out which fabrics from my cupboard might work the best.

  21. What luck! Just heard a friend is expecting, so I'd be in for a crib sized QAL.
My sleeping/date confusion is way off too. No idea of what day of the week it is, but at least know it's super early in the morning and I should be asleep :)

  22. A nice slow quilt along is just up my alley! hopefully I'll make progress on the other one I'm in before Feb too.

I like your picks for a bundle - I think I would choose the pencil leaves in gray too. I really want to find time before the deadline to make a mosaic!

Good luck returning to your routine!

  23. Hey Sarah great idea - by Feb I should know if I can fit another project in - maybe joined up too much again! Oops!

Love your bundle but then you have green - that gets me every time! A little shot of orange - love that too and lots of texture in the different sized prints - this is great advertising ...!

I'm hoping to join your QAL too :) I'm sure I have a little fabric tucked away that could be put to good use!

  27. Wowee, I've always loved that pink and black quilt. It looks mega ginormous though... is it QAYG? New fabric is on hold until after my FMF bundle gets here though, so if I can sew from stash, I'm in!!
